How can counselling or psychotherapy help you?
People seek help for a variety of reasons - a long-term problem that doesn't go away, an immediate crisis, or feelings or emptiness/lack of meaning to life. Giving time and attention to your distress in the company of a listening, empathic, impartial therapist can lighten the load and allow you space to review your situation, how you live and experience life.
The initial appointment
This gives you the opportunity to meet me, to talk about what has prompted you to seek counselling and to decide if counselling is for you. It is the time when you will be able to ask any questions you may have about the service I am offering.
The therapeutic process
It is just as important that you feel comfortable with your therapist. If we decide to work we would arrange to meet for an agreed number of sessions. A review will take place at the end of the agreed number of sessions and we will jointly assess progress and what further action, if any, may be needed. You are free to terminate your therapy at any time.
Codes of ethics
I am registered with the BACP and adhere to their Code of Ethics for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
Regular supervision of cases is undertaken to ensure good therapeutic practise. Supervision is to ensure that therapeutic standards are maintained for the benefit of the client.
Confidentiality and access to case notes
The trust between client and therapist is crucial to the success of the therapeutic process and I treat all information disclosed as confidential. I do not disclose client details to any third party without the client's consent.
I trained in a Person Centred approach but work with a more integrative model currently. Having worked with a client base for several years and embraced Continued Professional Development I have accrued more academic skills and experience in the field. I aim to be sensitive to the cultural and ethnic origins of individuals. I operate an equal opportunities employer policy.
Please feel free to contact me by telephone or e-mail; I would be happy to talk to you about any questions you may have
